Sullivan to Address Dangers of Tobacco at National Conference
Louis W. Sullivan, M.D., will deliver the keynote address at the second National Conference of the Health Education Council’s (HEC) Break Free Alliance and the National African American Tobacco Education Network (NAATEN). Promising Practices 2010: Achieving Health and Social Equity in Tobacco Control will be held April 27-28, 2010 in New Orleans, Louisiana. The conference will highlight promising approaches to reduce tobacco use in low socioeconomic status (SES) and African American populations throughout the country.
The 2010 conference tracks will focus on a new era in tobacco control:
Track A –Integrating Tobacco Control and Chronic Disease Prevention
Track B – Increasing Access to Prevention, Education and Cessation
Track C – Yes We Can! – Influencing Policy, Legislation and Health Care Reform
The mission of the Health Education Council is to promote healthy communities through health education and partnerships with organizations that serve at risk populations, particularly the medically underserved and ethnic minorities. HEC’s Break Free Alliance and NAATEN are programs dedicated to reducing tobacco use among populations of low socioeconomic status (SES) and African American communities, respectively. Both programs assist national organizations and states with tobacco control education, activities, and policy development to reach these communities.
The conference is expected to attract over 200 attendees working in the public health field.
